Lady Fidela Isidora Velasquez
" And as she sits upon her place
her innocence laid on her face
from all atop the parapets blow a multitude of coronets
melodies rhapsodical and fair
and all our hearts afire
the sky ablaze with cannon fire
we all raise our voices to the air
to the air... "

FULL NAME Lady Fidela Isidora Velasquez Solano
ALIAS None
AGE twenty-one
NATIONALITY Spain
OCCUPATION noblewoman and the king’s mistress
PERSONALITY Fidela is extremely innocent and naïve. She grew up with no companions and only learned about the world through her father’s books, not actual experiences. Going to court was the most exciting thing to ever happen to her and she was thrilled with the chance to finally make friends among the other ladies-in-waiting and perhaps even the princesses or queen. Since becoming the king’s mistress, she has felt particularly ostracized from the group and regained the desperation for attention that dominated her childhood. The king is now her only companion and she is terrified of the day he loses interest in her. She does everything in her power to prevent that from happening but also secretly prays that she will become pregnant soon so if he does replace her, she will at least have a son or daughter to keep her company.
She is also very spoiled and loves being showered with all sorts of lavish gifts. Ever since her earliest memories, she has associated presents with love and because the king dotes on her, she believes in her naivety that he loves her. If a single day goes by without some sort of surprise, she questions his affection and sometimes, will even through a fit like a child having a tantrum. Her favorite gifts are jewelry and dresses, anything to make her stand out in the court and show the world how much he cares about her. In her free time, Fidela enjoys the same things she did as a child. She reads extensively and practices her instruments whenever the king does not need her.
SEXUALITY straight
APPEARENCE
Fidela does not possess the sort of beauty that would launch a thousand ships but was pretty enough to catch and hold the attention of the Spanish king. Her oval face is framed by a halo of dark black curls. She considers her hair her greatest attribute and rarely hides it beneath bonnets or hats. Instead, she prefers to adorn it with pretty ribbons or jeweled hairpins, anything to draw attention to her beautiful mane. Fidela has dark emerald eyes framed by thick lashes and though her bloodlines have given her slightly olive skin, she does her best to stay out of the sun to keep it from becoming too dark.
As the king’s mistress, she dresses her slender frame in only the finest clothing money can buy. She has always enjoyed fashion and her new position in court allows her to explore her hobby in ways she would not have been able to before. Fidela enjoys bright colors and low cut necklines that show off her youthful curves. She loves adorning herself in accessories, usually expensive jewelry given to her by the king. Emeralds are her favorite, as they are the same color as her eyes. She is rather short, just reaching five feet and three inches, but her role as the king’s mistress gave her an air of superiority and she walks talk, strutting about as though she were a queen or princess.

HISTORY Fidela was the only child born to Enrique Velasquez and his first wife, Isidora Solano. Her poor mother passed away only hours after bringing her into the world and the servants often told her growing up that her father was never the same after losing his wife. Because of his grief, he was a rather distracted parents and instead of giving his young daughter his love and affection, he spoiled her with lavish gifts instead. She rarely saw her father as a child, he often avoided her because of her strong resemblance to her mother, but the jewelry, dresses, and animal companions he constantly sent her assured her of his love and ever since then, she has associated that emotion with presents.
She had a lonely childhood growing up with no parents or siblings to keep her company and had to find ways of entertaining herself. She had many pets to play with but also spent her time reading whatever she could get her hands on. By raiding her father’s library, she taught herself English, French, and Latin, and educated herself in many other subjects as well. Fidela also learned how to play several instruments from books though her favorite quickly became the lute. She threw herself into practicing and became quite skilled at it by the time she reached adulthood.
When she was seventeen, her father finally came out of his depression and decided it was time to remarry. He was growing older and still needed a male heir to carry on his family’s title. Fidela hated her stepmother from the very first moment she met her. Enrique doted on his wife and the daughter he always ignored became insanely jealous. Her only consolation came in the form of the baby brother that came within a year of her father’s marriage. She had always wanted a brother or sister to play with but she was only allowed to enjoy little Quique’s company for two years before her stepmother talked her father into sending her to court. The two women fought constantly and since her stepmother could not wait until she was married to have her out of her new home, she convinced Enrique to send her to Madrid to be a lady-in-waiting to the royal family.
Within just a few months, her musical talents caught the attention of the king and she was asked to play for him one evening in his chambers. She thought that other courtiers would be in attendance and was shocked when she arrived with her lute and was told it would be a private concert for just the king. Poor Fidela was so nervous that her hands shook too badly to play a single note. The king thought wine would help her relax and after sharing several glasses together, they tumbled into bed and became lovers. He was her first and because of this, she feels a particularly strong attachment to him. He spoils her with gifts, something she has always associated with love, and she also sees him as the father she never had.

Stepping down from the quarter deck, Captain Nagra allowed himself to take a moment to close his eyes and savor the familiar sounds and smells of the sea one last time before leaving his ship for the city. The gentle sound of rocking waves was sweeter than his mother’s old lullabies and the salty smell on the air was more pleasing than the perfume of any lover. But unlike those kind women from his past, the sea was a cruel mistress and the comfort she offered the seasoned sailor was only an illusion. He liked to think she was the source of his greatest pleasure but in reality, she was the cause of his greatest pain.
Sure, she allowed him to leave her for a few days at a time, to spend his hard earned gold and silver in whatever port she brought him to and to share wild tales of his adventures with anyone who would listen. But as soon as his stay on land started to become more permanent or he tried to move further away from the coast, her jealously boiled over and she began to play with his mind. At first, her warning was subtle enough, giving Sinbad amble time to be a good boy and come back to her. He’d catch a glimpse of something in the market that reminded him of one of his many voyages or smell something that brought back memories of far away lands that were only reachable by sea. Through these, his mistress reminded him of the good times they had together and sometimes he would give in immediately and return to his ship like a good slave. But there were other times, usually after a particularly dangerous adventure, when the captain would try to fight back. In one instance he even tried to give up sailing all together to go back to his village in hopes of finding a wife and starting a proper family but that invoked the Sea’s rage so badly that he knew it would be a long time before he attempted such foolery again. While he was awake, she would make his wanderlust so strong that it was impossible to satisfy his other desires. Food tasted like ash in his mouth, wine turned to water, and there wasn’t a woman in the world that could please him. At night, she would try a different approach, controlling his dreams and begging him to come back with soft lover’s whispers. “Come back, Sinbad. Just one more adventure, my sailor, just one more….”
After a few days of this torture, Sinbad would return to The Voyager like a wounded dog with his tail between his legs, calling for all his sailors and setting off for yet another fantastical voyage. Now, having just completed his seventh and probably greatest yet, he was older and wiser and knew better than to play games with the sea. He just wanted a few fun days in port before getting back to work and as he descended the gangplank, he said a tender goodbye to his mistress with promises to return soon. He knew that she wouldn’t let him rest until there were no adventures left, until every monster that haunted her depths was slain and every damsel in distress was rescued. There was no use in fighting it anymore but he wouldn’t bother himself with those thoughts until it he returned to his ship. Right now, he had a large handful of gold dinars burning a hole in his pocket and he was in the mood for entertainment.
